The filming of this movie had been very "secretive"

But Damian has a role in it. Nothing's revealed about his role, he didnt appear in any of the promotional events nor interviews..

Daniel Lee's the director for this film. (Damian appeared in Director Lee's "The Sword be Able to" and "Three kingdoms" 94新独臂刀 and 三国)

Just watch out for it at theatres.... soon (not sure when)

Let's update any news here:[42]

12Oct2009

During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jinyiwei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans.

Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jinyiwei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jinyiwei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone.

When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch JIA, the best of the Jinyiwei, QINGLONG and XUANWU, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Qinglong, the Jinyiwei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Qinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu and barely escapes with his life.

Now as the most wanted man in the land Qinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power.

In his way are the deadliest assassins in the land, his former brethren, the Jinyiwei.

First Look at Donnie Yen in 錦衣衛 (14 Blades)

If you're wondering whether this film is some sort of unofficial remake of the Shaw Brothers 1984 wuxia 錦衣衛 (Secret Service of the Imperial Court) the answer is... no. The confusion would instantly be explained by taking a look at the Chinese title: 錦衣衛 (or 锦衣卫 in simplified Chinese). That is, Jinyiwei (brocade-clad army), the Ming emperors' own version of the CIA. The organization was set up in the late 14th century by Ming dynasty founder Zhu Yuanzhang (Emperor Hongwu), first as his own personal guards numbering in the hundreds, and later gaining many more other responsibilities (including intelligence, of course), reaching their apex in the 16th century with a total force around the low six figures. Sure enough, Jinyiwei was also the Chinese title of the Shaw Brothers flick starring Leung Kar-Yan, not to mention a 2006 CCTV series, so while we're indeed dealing with the same secret service, it doesn't mean it will be the same story, as this Sina article confirms.

First look at Donnie Yen in ‘14 Blades’

by Mark Pollard | August 4, 2009

Photos from the set of director Daniel Lee’s upcoming period martial arts actioner 14 BLADES, depicting leading wushu star Donnie Yen, have begun appearing in Chinese media. Images show a serious-looking Yen, both clothed and shirtless while sporting a goatee, fake tats and beefed up abs

14 BLADES puts Yen into the role of Green Dragon, a Ming Dynasty-era Imperial guard, the best of a specially trained force of sword-slinging agents who take orders directly from the Emperor. When an evil Eunuch takes over the Imperial court, Yen’s associates turn against him while they’re on a secret mission. Green Dragon becomes public enemy number one and must battle his former comrades while rallying those still loyal to the Emperor.

SHAOLIN SOCCER AND PAINTED SKIN star Vicki Zhao plays Qiao Hua, the daughter of an armed escort service chief. She becomes romantically involved with Green Dragon.

Other cast members include Wu Chun, Qi Yuwu, Kate Tsui and Law Kar-ying.

The film is expected to contain heavy doses of stylized fight sequences populated by a large number of veteran martial arts stars, all overseen by action director Ku Huan-chiu who has worked closely with wire-fu master Yuen Woo-ping for the past 20 years.

Veteran genre actors to make appearances include Chen Kuan-tai Wu Ma Sammo Hung , Xu Xiang-dong, Chen Zhi-hua, and Damian Lau

Chen Kuan-tai, one of Shaw Brothers’ top kung fu stars of the 1970s, will play a nemesis to Donnie Yen’s character. It’s a fitting choice as not only is Chen a real kung fu expert who has stayed in shape, he starred in Shaw Brothers’ two FLYING GUILLOTINE films which are very similar in plot to 14 BLADES.

Mainlander Xu Xiang-dong is another highly skilled, albeit less famous martial arts-trained actor who previously appeared in Yuen Woo-ping’s wire-fu comedy WING CHUN, starring Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen. He also recently crossed fists with Yuen Biao in the excellent kung fu TV series WING CHUN (2007) where he showed that he is still in top form.

Yen has suggested that 14 BLADES has some of the most plentiful and challenging fight sequences from among his recent films. A likely reason for the injury and the challenge might be Ku Huan-chiu, who as action director is reportedly pushing the film’s fighting stars.

Midway through the 14 BLADES shoot, Donnie Yen reportedly suffered a leg injury, apparently related to a previous injury. Despite the setback, he returned to finish his scenes.

On a personal note, Donnie Yen’s grandmother passed away on July 14 in Boston. Amazingly, she was over 100 years old. Yen, who was in China on the set of 14 BLADES, was unable to fly back to the U.S. to attend the funeral service.

Donnie Yen in for Bond-esque actioner
'14 Blades' will be directed by Daniel Lee

By Patrick Frater

May 12, 2009

CANNES -- Donnie Yen is to star in "14 Blades," a martial arts actioner being positioned as a "Chinese James Bond movie."

Production is set to begin this week in Ningxia, China, under the direction of Hong Kong's Daniel Lee ("Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon," "Black Mask").

The film, budgeted at $20 million, is produced by "Three Kingdoms" producer Susanna Tsang through her Hong Kong-based Visualizer Film Prods. and mainland China's Shanghai Film Group. World sales (excluding China, Singapore and Malaysia) are being handled by Easternlight, the Asian label of L.A.-based sales outfit Arclight Films.

The screenplay by Lee and Abe Kwong is set within Jinyiwei, a 14th century intelligence agency that hired street orphans and trained them as assassins who employed an arsenal of blades for torture and assassination. The story involves a licensed killer who has to overthrow a puppetmaster who has usurped the powers of the rightful emperor. The picture also stars Zhao Wei.

" '14 Blades' is really the first James Bond film from China and is based on historical fact," Tsang said. "Audiences from China and abroad have never seen this type of Chinese movie before."

Appending Polished Blades to 14 Blades

Wednesday, July 8. 2009

In 14 Blades, the Imperial Guards are raised and trained to be ruthless killing machines since childhood, to execute whatever questionable orders from the Imperial Court or Emperor without questions, and Green Dragon (Donnie Yen), being the most highly skilled of them all, is no exception.

Each of them possesses a chest containing 14 blades, and the Imperial Guards would use different weapons under different situations, with 8 being used for all forms of tortures, and another 5 for killings, and the last one for hara kiri. And they are also experts at psychological warfare, negotiating or weakening the enemies' minds in order to accomplish their missions.

But deep within his heart, there's still an iota of conscience left in Green Dragon, who begins to question its motives and runs away from the organisation while being hunted down, when he discovers a big conspiracy as an evil eunuch gains control of the Imperial Court and Imperial Guards.

While on the run, Green Dragon becomes acquainted with Qiao Hua (Vicki Zhao), daughter of the chief of an Armed Escort Agency. Initially, like all Imperial Guards do, he's merely making use of her. However, he gradually falls for her while she finds out that she's being made use of.

Under director Daniel Lee's invitation, several veteran martial arts stars, Chen Kuan Tai, who plays one of Donnie Yen's greatest nemesis, Wu Ma, Sammo Hung, Xu Xiang Dong, Chen Zhi Hui, etc. will also be making guest appearances in the film, giving Donnie Yen, who sprained his knee on the set a few weeks back in Hengdian, a field day in fighting.

Other cast members include Kate Tsui, who would be playing an assassin, and Qi Yu Wu, who plays an Imperial Guard who betrays his buddy Green Dragon in order to climb up the social ladder.

14 Blades has just moved location from Hengdian to Yinchuan, and due to the incredibly hot weather as a result of global warming, the cast members who are wearing layers of thick clothing would sweat till their costumes are soaked. To combat heat, the production would transport ice cubes and ice water to the set and employ huge fans to cool the surroundings.

A teaser trailer

for Donnie Yen’s latest Chinese costume martial arts epic “14 Blades” has landed online, and oh boy does it look good. I mean really, really good. It looks like the movie that “An Empress and the Warriors” should have been. The focus of the film seems to be directed at the right spot — the action — and not some insipid romance or, worst yet, some perfunctory love triangle. The Daniel Lee-directed film stars Yen and Vicki Zhao, along with Sammo Hung and Damian Lau.

Set during the Ming Dynasty the movie will depict the exploits of a group of elite assassins known as the Imperial Guards. Trained since early childhood to become masters of the sword in service of the emperor, these men carried out their tasks with deadly precision.

Starring Donnie Yen, Wei Zhao, Chun Wu, Yuwu Qi, Sammo Hung, Kuan Tai Chen, Chen Zhi Hui, Ma Wu, Damian Lau, Kate Tsui, Kar-Ying Law, and Xiang Dong Xu. Directed by Daniel Lee.

The blades come out in Hong Kong February 2010.
